Leading the Team
| Reidar Zapf-Gilje, PhD, PEng: |
With over 30 years' experience in environmental assessments, remediation and management, Reidar has directed and managed many large contaminated soil, groundwater and sediment projects from the initial investigations to implementation of remediation and/or risk management solutions. He provides specialist review and advice on brownfield remediation and redevelopment projects in Canada and abroad. In his role as current Chair of the Contaminated Sites Roster of Professional Experts, Reidar has been leading the development of the new and expanded contaminated sites approved professional review system, designed to assist the Ministry of Environment with issuance of regulatory instruments. With a desire to see the development of a true community of contaminated sites professionals, Reidar opened GeoEnviroLogic Professional Development to bring practitioners, regulators and others together to share information and learn from one another's experiences. Reidar also teaches part-time in UBC's departments of Civil Engineering and Earth Sciences as Adjunct Professor. |
Core Team
Each seminar features a variety of guest speakers with proven expertise in their field and on their topic. Regular contributors include:

Prior to arriving in British Columbia in early 1991, Guy provided environmental services in Waterloo, Ontario and Redmond, Washington. For the past 25 years his work has focused on contamination issues at solid waste, creosote, coal-tar, hydrocarbon and chlorinated solvent sites across Canada, the U.S., Australasia, South Africa and Europe. Guy is a Registered Professional Engineer in BC, the Yukon, Saskatchewan, and Nova Scotia. He serves as a member of the Roster of Professional Experts in BC, and is a frequent speaker at conferences and educational institutions. |

She is a partner at Azimuth Consulting Group and works for a wide variety of government and industrial clients delivering risk-based solutions. In the early 1990s, she led the team that developed the Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment guidance documents for ERA. More recently, she led the Science Advisory Board for Contaminated Sites’ (SABCS) (1) “Detailed Ecological Risk Assessment Task Group” and (2) the "Risk Forum" - a think-tank to support the development and application of good practice in risk assessment in BC. Beth is appointed to the BC Roster of Professional Experts as a risk assessor. She is also a Ministry of Environment-contracted "External Reviewer" for ERAs prepared in support of instruments under the Contaminated Sites Regulations. Beth is editor of the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry's "Ecological Risk Assessment Advisory Group" community website. |

Guest Speakers
Depending on the subject being presented, specialists and other professionals, such as lawyers, chemists and others, are featured.
Contributing Organizations
The Ministry of Environment's Land Remediation Section (formerly Contaminated Sites Program) has been highly supportive of GeoEnviroLogic Professional Development; almost all seminars feature guest speakers from, and provide opportunities for discussion with, Ministry representatives.
Members of the Core Team are integrally involved in leading two of the Province's primary contaminated sites initiatives: the Contaminated Sites Approved Professionals System and the Science Advisory Board for Contaminated Sites. These speakers are uniquely able to provide up-to-the-minute updates on initiatives from both organizations as well as information on work planned for the future.
Organizations such as the Department of Fisheries and Oceans, Transport Canada, Environment Canada, and Health Canada are regular seminar contributors. This provides registrants with timely access to emerging trends and new information that affects all contaminated sites and environmental practitioners and other stakeholders.
